The Faculty of Law, SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat organised a guest lecture on 2nd March 2023 at 11 am on the topic “Empowerment of women through ICT" to celebrate International Women’s Week, 2023. The objective of the event was to sensitise our students to ITC’s initiatives focusing on women’s empowerment along with various entrepreneurial opportunities for women from economically weaker sections of society.

The Chief Guest of the event was Ms Arya Tripathi, Partner at Priti Suri & Associates. The event commenced with a welcome address of the Chief Guest by Ms Parineeta Goswami, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law. The topic was introduced by Shailsha and Devanshi students of B.A.LL.B. The event was more like an interactive session and was moderated by Ms Parineeta Goswami.

The speaker of the event gave deliberations on

• Importance of FEMTECH for women empowerment.
• Aspects of ICT for the empowerment of women.
• AI and Machine learning on Gender Bias.
• Protection of Personal Data.

The speaker described the objectives and aspects of women’s empowerment through ICT such as developing healthcare for women and what nutrition and precautions women should take during pregnancy. Further she elaborated on how the accessibility of women increased through ICT, how it made household work convenient for women and what are the different aspects of ICT regarding the education of women. She further discussed the future of AI and Machine learning in day to day life. AI reflects the subconscious of the data entered by the user if the user is gender biased. Individuals must have the right to object to automated decision making. Digital Personal Data Protection Bill talks about automated data processing and no current law is regulating it. She further debated on how gender bias can be eliminated. Further, she discussed personal data privacy in India. Laws in India are very shifty. She suggested that a dedicated data protection law for informational privacy is needed. In her closing speech, she discussed the disadvantages of ICT as there is absence of privacy in India. The event was preceded by an activity where questions based on the event's discussion were posed by Sarthak, Ruhani and Shristi. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Riya.
