The Centre of Law and Technology at SRMUH hosted a captivating workshop on Generative AI Skill Development, featuring prominent speakers, Vandana Saxena, Founder & CEO of VAS, and Amitabh Srivastava, Co-founder & Managing Partner of VAS. The event commenced with Vanshika, the student convenor of CLT, extending a warm welcome to the speakers and attendees, setting the stage for an enlightening exploration of artificial intelligence (AI). Then Professor Vijay Kumar Singh, Dean, Faculty of Law addressed the workshop and facilitated the guest speakers with a Certificate of Appreciation.

The workshop kicked off with a foundational introduction to AI, providing participants with an overview of AI tools, their historical background, and tracing the evolutionary journey of chatGPT. 

  • A task titled “Paper Crafting Task: Decoding Element of Interpretation” was ingeniously designed to elucidate the principle of “same input, different output” while emphasizing the significance of prompting in AI applications.
  • A deep dive into “prompt engineering,” also known as research aid was conducted, underscoring its pivotal role in providing a structured approach to research direction. The formulaic steps of prompt formulation, encompassing context, task, instruction, and example, were elucidated, emphasizing its significance as the cornerstone for steering research endeavours effectively. 
  • Participants were then presented with a case study where they utilized AI tools to analyse and resolve issues embedded within the case. The case was based off a Sexual harassment complaint. This practical exercise enabled attendees to ask various questions to the ChatGPT, in order to get the answers they wanted. This practise helped the attendees in understanding the importance of complete prompt to get the desired answer. 
  • The workshop culminated with an introduction to “CRYSTAL KNOWS,” a personality data platform powered by AI. Through practical demonstrations using the LinkedIn profiles of two students, attendees gained insights into the application of AI in understanding and analyzing individual personalities, thereby highlighting the diverse applications of Generative AI beyond traditional realms.

Participants were also introduced to a plethora of AI applications tailored specifically for law professionals. Notable mentions include:

  • Generative AI by Adobe called adobe Acrobat
  • Transcribing and Dictating tool by Office 365
  • Use of SUPACE
  • Zoom call recording and catching up 
  • AI Lawyer
  • Engage AI for social media and blog post assistance,
  •  Publer AI for Gmail and WhatsApp marketing, 
  • Invideo AI for video creation, 
  • Resumeworded for CV and LinkedIn scoring, and 
  • MapThis for mind map generation from PDFs. 

Live illustrations and hands-on tasks further enhanced participants’ understanding of these tools’ functionalities Ethical considerations in AI adoption were a recurring theme throughout the workshop. The concept of “Sunflower Bias,” elucidating the tendency for groups to align with the views of their leaders, was explored, prompting participants to reflect on the ethical implications of AI integration in legal practice. 

Conclusion:

The workshop on Generative AI Skill Development offered participants a comprehensive understanding of AI applications and tools, particularly tailored for law professionals. Through interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on tasks, attendees gained valuable insights into leveraging AI to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in legal practice while being mindful of ethical considerations.
